Adventure Birding by Bike at Orland Grasslands (6.4.26)

Orland Grassland contains 960 acres of restored prairie and sedge meadow, dotted with ponds and upland savanna. This mosaic mix of habitat types provides a corresponding high diversity of bird life with 240 species recorded on eBird.

With 5 miles of paved bike trails, this is an ideal place to bird by bike. Join us for a casual ride as we circle this Illinois Land and Water Reserve, which is also an Important Bird Area, and one of the largest restoration projects in the history of Cook County Forest Preserves.

Late spring migrants should still be passing through and nesting grassland species will be setting up territories and settling in for the season, including: Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlarks, Grasshopper Sparrows and Dickcissels.

Plan to be at the parking lot at the junction of 167th Street and Highway 45/LaGrange Road before 7:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided at the end of the ride.
